LXC

Web: lxc.alphacutrecords.com
Labels: Offshore, Death$ucker, Santorin, Phantomnoise, Alphacut.
Location: Connewitz, Leipzig, Germany
Styles: Noskoolbreaks, Fakecore, Anti-Clockwize-Drum’n’Bass, …

LXC (‘leksi) is the man when it comes to hardcore Drum’n’Bass and weird Electronics.

Looking back to early sonic experiments with gabba kickdrums back in 1993, he made it to releases on labels such as Phantomnoise, Death$ucker, Offshore, Santorin and Plainaudio. In 2003, Alphacut Records was launched, providing Drum&Bass, Breakcore, so-called IDM and further trash. Under the flag of D.I.Y., LXC is A&R, producer, cutting enginieer, graphic designer and distributor, all in one person. Not to forget, there are activities as promoter since 1999, bringing not quantity but quality to the dancefloors over Leipzig. Party Series like Strukturbruch, Mash It and Alphacut Sessions proved it, featuring different international acts and loads of various styles. The future won’t be silent!

First concept album:

Conceived as a kind of different D’n’B album for a couple of years, the LP entitled “We Have To Hold Apart” was born as a collection of really confusing & probably even refreshing Clicks’n’Bass tunes until the Winter of 2002/03. Sharply cut pieces of old school drum machines and disfigured crackles of synthosaurs create a shaky uptempo 7/8th bleep blues. Everything is screeching on a dusty silver tray, tasty served with juicy FX. Filled up with several ambient and illbient works, this LP shows all excesses LXC never has dared to get involved in before: minimal techno, dark downbreaks, field recordings and whatnot. Come in and never find out of this odd little world that is what Dn’B never was and IDM never will be. It became released in November 2005 by plainaudio.com

.

lxc - just before parachuting (2005)

Split genius

By the way LXC is working on several experimental projects like Apeiron, LXXXC, Mandragora and others, using electronic acoustics, synthesizer development, combining beats and handmade sounds on instruments like Viola or Bass, and sometimes also writing some special concept albums with blings & klonks, clicks & bass and whatnot which will probably never be released. Big things are coming up on collaboration fronts: The studio is becoming more and more into a place for affiliated artists to rework their ideas, signal processing and mastering. Watch out for works with Martsman, Karl Marx Stadt and Mackjiggah, just to name a few.

drumzone.de (Iaka) about Phantomnoise 004
There won’t be any dilly-dallying, rightaway LXC is coming to the point when its about his debut, […] featuring these loaded Breakcore-tunes. Metallic snares and distorted and modulated basslines show how to break structure. In spite of its brutal kind the tunes is fits towards the club, because it simply rocks. […] A successful release, convincing the true breakcore lovers.

ouk (Lichtwald) about Phantomnoise 004
Complex rough beats with numerous breakdowns lead into a world of ist own. […] Extremely distorted beats and bass and many electronic whirlings […] The system gets upset, courageous and individual record.

Majesticstore about Phantomnoise 004
Hardcore Techno – can you say basssss!!! Phantomnoise is back with another dancefloor smasher. This time, this awsome hardcore label takes a new turn and drops out the 4/4th kick drum and replaces it with some deep, dark basslines. Add those to the hard industrial break beat behind it, and you have yourself a wikid Drum&Bass release. But don’t let it fool you, it is still fast enough to mix into the Hardcore sound, for those that like a little flavor with their core!!!

nitestylez.de (baze.djunkiii) about Phantomnoise 006
[…] however, LXC clings to extremly metallic sound aesthetics and manages to bring a completely ungroovy rolling stepper while having abstract Reinforced releases in mind. More, please.

Westberlin Distribution (raphael) about Phantomnoise 006
LXC chops the former Drum&Bass tune and rebuilts it as an absolutely crazy rhythm monster, […] hit and win, I would say.

Future Music (baze.djunkiii) about Phantomnoise 006
The remix by LXC on the flipside is practising metallic anti-funk […] – positive bleeps out of the phone, reverberating scratches and a silly bassline guarantee for good mood. […]

de:bug (Bleed) about Alphacut 002
damn break friendly Drum&Bass tracks of the scene from Leipzig, in the meantime still taking to a strange oldschool flavour with their totally silly Gabba bassdrums in the middle of a very smooth breakbeat fever, as well not deviating from the killersound. Two of the probably most provocative Drum&Bass tracks from Germany for a long time […] – a must.

PNG (Criticale) about Alphacut 002
The a side tune “Stick Em Up” of MZE and LXC from Leipzig starts with a sample, reminding me of Photek or Source Direct in the middle of the nineties. […] The following beats also make no secret out of their time referings. To go back further years in (D&B)-history, MZE and LXC are unpacking the rave piano. Quickly they are making clear with the thrown in bass – this is about party galore. You may call this oldschool or timeless. For me its definately the kind of Drum&Bass, why I never let anything elsecome to my ears.

Future Music (baze.djunkiii) about Alphacut 002
[…] “Stick Em Up” from the nib of MZE VS. LXC comes as a shifted deep tune, refining the original Intelligent Jungle concept of early Metalheadz releases with rave signals, fat Hardcore bassdrums and a proper portion of Darkjungle. Primetime stuff for advanced dancefloors.

de:bug (Bleed) about Santorin Limited 300
[…] the flipside is a monstrous with breaks, we haven’t heard since the experimental times of Digital und Dillinja in such a deep and brute way. Monster record.

Raveline (baze.djunkiii) about Santorin Limited 300
[…] on the flipside LXC is following his special liking for shifted Drum&Bass structures. This time a little bit more organic than usual for him, he is delivering fresh food for the Intelligent party.

drumandbass.de (Flowpro) about Santorin limited 300
[…] “The Most Important” is the name of the track by LXC, who is managing to make intelligent beat structures floor compatible and which is playing very nice with sounds, breaks und basslines!

c0p (HO) about Santorin Limited 300
[…] Flipping the record doesn’t mean lowering energy levels by the newcomer LXC. “The Most Important” bring us a combination of some thick’n’frenzy drumloops, jazzy textures flavoured by dub delays and heavy heavy basslines. Reminds me to the early Drum’n’bass but in a modern suit. If you think nowdays common sounding is not your partner in business, you should check this record out!

future-music.net (baze.djunkiii) about Santorin Limited 300
im my opinion its the best santorin in the whole label history. […] LXC on the flipside is more into broken structures. onthe overall sound its more organic and softer than usual and in this case its more settled in a photek wise context than on the dancefloor this time, but LXC’s handwriting is not to be mistaken. wasn’t there the term intelligent drum and bass, some years ago?

PNG (Criticale) about Alphacut 003
[…] LXC’s revision of the insane “Rude Bwoy” by Cycom is in no way inferior to the origin track when its about euphory. He chops the tune in best manners and lets soak t-shirts within minutes. If Drum&bass is energetic music, then like that.

nitestylez.de (baze.djunkiii) about Alphacut 003
[…], to shake the dancefloors of the republic. […] on the flipside LXC has remixed Cycom’s track “Rude Bwoy” and gave it a new anti-groovy beat skeleton, to which can only be danced by people with extreme body contro. [.]

DJ-Magazine (Lightwood) about Alphacut 003
[…] a wilful mix of ‘machine-music’ and dark Jungle came out, very varied knitted, with a great breakdown in the middle. Its hard to place in a mix, but definately a number which will attract attention. […]

Future Music (baze.djunkiii) about Alphacut 003
[…] LXC is remixing the track “rude bwoy” by cycom on the flipside and delivers a varying, brutely fast and against-the-stroke-brushed beat, I may safely call anti-funk. […] again LXC drops the abstract edit breaks, so its just crashing. Recommended for very advanced dancefloors.

de:bug (Bleed) about Phantomnoise 010
The latest Phantomnoise brings back the times of the stepperbeats and I wish Ii were back in 96 again. LXC makes this perfectly and until the last ravestab with an enthusiasm, I totally can comprehend. […]

nitestylez.de (baze.djunkiii) about Phantomnoise 010
Meanwhile also Phantommoise Records reached the release range of two digits in the catalogue number and delivers with the “Rave Is Back EP” by LXC an potential hit in Dark Jungle. The intro of the a-side uses well-known sounds of the Bonzai-rave-hymn “Calling Earth” and garnishs them with knife-sharp stepping beats, holding back when its about the Rave thing, while its referings can not be denied. Just “Rave Is Back Again” on the b-side gets totally involved in pianostabs and a classic acidline, standing in my caseas a dubplate since a while for this reason. Like this Drum’n’Bass / Darkjungle is big fun…

Belgradeyard Sound (HR) (goran) about Phantomnoise 010
One of our favorite producers on Hardcore Drum&Bass / Jungle scene is LXC, the man who releases for great Phantomnoise label. He just put out a new single which brings us back in the heated atmosphere of the clubs in the beginning of nineties, when Rave scene was so strong all over Europe. Single’s called (what else then): Rave Is Back, and is pressed on green fluorescent 12″ vinyl, which gives a perfect shape to the whole story.

Prinz Leipzig (sha) about Phantomnoise 010
Never before a name was more program than at this 12 inch! With “Rave Is Back” LXC creates a dark, reduced to the necessities, Drum’n’Bass Rave track and in order to claim for the style’s hit of the year. It follows a extremly broken “Rave Is Back Again” on the b-side, which should make it hard to dance for spoilt house-girls and boys. however, the technoid punx will brightly pleased throw theirselves into the strobe-crossfire.

Raveline (Lightwood) about Phantomnoise 010
Two trashy, jigsawed compounded quotation collections with wild fading beats. Who wants to smile, should smile. Who wants to rave, should rave. I’m raving smiling. Homage? Tool? Gimmick? Collectors’ piece? The last Drum’n’Bass record on Earth? Everything is possible. Extreme record. Fantastic record.

nitestylez.de (baze.djunkiii) about Alphacut 007
Alphacut Records sees the release of its cat.no. 007 soon, a triple split of Alpha Omega, Sumone and label head honcho LXC, dedicated to the more experimental side of dubwise Halfstep Drum’n’Bass […]. LXC’s “Lock In” transfers his understanding of what halfspeed stuff means into the realms of Electronica / Glitch / Drill’n’Bass. Limited to 777 copies worldwide, so make sure to grab yours quickly.

Kone 2008 JANUARY chart

———minimal ———
Meat Katie/D.Ramirez – Stop The Revolution (Dubfire’s Arrowhead Dub (Extended Mix)) (LOT49)
Just a monster track! Energy and minimalism.

Maskio – Human Jungle (Santos (Italy) re-edit) (Hell Yeah)
“Afro-minimal”, as I call it, quite new and promising minimal techno subgenre, in it’s best fresh example. In sound design, it’s full of wild-afro-brazil-world samples and percussions, in structure it’s minimal techno. A compromise between cold electronic sounds of minimal and hot afrobeat/carnivalle atmosphere, Afro-minimal is quite interesting thing happening right now. Check some releases by Gabriel Ananda, Samim. Is it the same Santos who did great track “Tromba” couple of years ago?

Martin Buttrich – Hunted (Cocoon Recordings)
Deep stuff, very limited melodically, and I love her vocal!

Chaim – Dana (Guy Gerber rmx) (Dogtown)
OMG this one was in my September chart, in my October chart and it’s still here! Can’t stop enjoying this masterpiece, which reflects my preferences in sound so deeply!

Joseph Capriati – Oasi (Analytictrail)
A bit too primitive, but works well on dance-floor.

Note: This chart is tracks I’ve bought this month. I listen to samples of 1000-1500 tracks each week, this selection of very very ‘best of ‘. More good tracks were close to get into my shopping cart, but due to financial limit they’re left behind. I publish them as Recommended inside comment to this post, so DJs and music fans – take a note. Responsible labels can send me those tracks as promo (vinyl or wave) and I will play them in my sets.

Creating an atmosphere

“Creating an atmosphere” is what DJ Kone famous for. “That’s my alter side, I play “Bar sets”, as I ironically call them, more often then minimal ones. Music is not loud, sound system is good, people don’t notice music, but suddenly a few nice girls start to dance, than others. Some DJs say I play lounge, but for me it’s more house. Just the mood is very subtle. If Electro is screaming, Nu’Jazz is e-z talking, and even whispering.” Light and uplifting eclectic DJ sets of Nu’Jazz, Funk, Balkan, Latino, Reggae and Afrobeat usually regulary played at Cuba Cafe and others clubs.

DJ Krush and Dj Vadim in Koko. Report from the concert.

I just came back from the concert. Tired but happy. So, please, excuse me my English.
I haven’t imagined that I can afford to go for this show that time. But deep in my heart I got strong desire to see and to feel it. And my wish was granted! I got my ticket in a bit tricky way. One friend of mine have called me and asked me do I want to have a ticket for this show? It was really good timing. Yes I do! So I got my ticket and now I must to make two websites for that. It’s ok, because it worth it!
Night Camden Town has it own charm. I have arrived on time, and even got a moment to bring some praises to Almighty and wonderful time. So I have passed inside the Koko club, but my camera isn’t. So here will be no photo report by me. Fortunately, you can see some camera phone images from an Last.fm user. I have found his pictures on event page of last.fm. Thanks to mr. Bingpoint. Events calendar are very useful options in modern social networking. Next time I should get myself an Press Card. I need more practice in live photogaphy.
What can I say about the concert? The words of my broken English can’t describe all the magic of Great Beat Masters vibes. It was massive! Music, performance expression, good PA system, light and venue itself. I wish you were there! In time when I have finished sorting out the clock room business the Shadow Orchestra was performing. It was last 1.5 songs, but I get positive impressions from it! Memory 9 – one man on stage with an powerful control surface and macbook have continued to warming up of the crowd. He have showed his good knowledge in composing of few popular music styles. Nice try. Last composition was pretty fast. Recently I really enjoy such fast music – around 135Bpm and more.
Then Dj Krush has arrived on stage and cooled down the public with his famous abstract intro. It was wonderful! If the concert was just this part, I shouldn’t be disappointed. I have squeezed in a bit closer to try to catch his hands movements. Nearly impossible. Sounds flow like an waterfall. Incredible! He can twist the sound wherever he likes to. Delay and reverb work well under his control. Eventually the beat goes down. Nice music. Deep and strong. With precise samurai’s cuts and scratches. His set was very stylish. For me, in his set was more than 50% of riddims was new. Old tunes and accapellas in a new mix rock as well. Solid respect! Dj Krush one of the greatest turntablist and mixologist on Earth! True!
Than another hip-hop scene monster, Dj Vadim has arrived on stage. Not alone, with two women on the mics! One, more than expected, full of energy, magnificent Yarah Bravo and another jazz queen lady. I didn’t catch her name. She have great vocal, jazzy singing in a black music style, although she was white one. That collective of veteran of UK-USA hip-hop scene and freestyle girls really go out of definitions. Breaking though the borders. Rocking and raging. Bringing the message of love from the real underground. No pop music. True! And all of this with good, loud sound and fat bass.
Only one moment was a bit hard to cope with. Too much people and many of them are mad! Pushing everybody around and crying out loud in sick animal way. Louder than a soundsystem. It made me tired. Too much hassles.
But in overall show was really good. I really enjoyed. I need to take a rest now. Dread out!
