Värka Kru Night

at Space:Garage, Audeju 12, 6th floor, Old Town, Riga, LV

Trying to remember days when Varka Kru was formed, providing clubbers with quality drum and bass. Anyone wants to listen music of 1996-1999, golden years of drum’n’bass? Nowadays our pathes quite separated, and of couse we gonna play our current selections too.

Puma will perfome her own songs live alone and with Alex in dancehall and drum’n’bass styles, she also will play as a DJ (reggaetone/dancehall/reggae). Ignat Gorazd will play two DJ sets, one roots and culture, another breakcore. Betons aka Fotu gonna take dust of old drum’n’bass vinyls, liquid funk style. Kone will join him too, with Roni Size/Bristol sound of nineties. Deep and smooth. +Fresh melodic techno set by the morning.

We wil try to get together old clubbers. Film maker Viesturs Kairishs gonna shoot missing club-scene episodes for his documentary ‘A Man From Varka Crew‘ about Martinsh Rubenis (Betons). See you.

Creating an atmosphere

“Creating an atmosphere” is what he’s famous for.
“That’s my another side, I play “Bar sets”, as I call them, even more often then minimal ones. Nice sound system, music is not loud, people don’t notice it, and suddenly somebody start to dance, others join. Other DJs say I play Lounge, but for me it’s more House. Just the mood is very subtle. Like talking, or even whispering. If screaming, than in nice, juicy way.”
Eclectic light but uplifting DJ sets of Nu’Jazz, Funk, Balkan, Latino, Afrobeat are what he plays in Cuba Café (every Wednesday and some Fridays or Saturdays) and other selected Riga’ clubs.

Positive trancy techno. Nice melody, kinda subtle and gently building track, total happiness.

Miro – African King (Dirk Dreyer Edit, Mike Rubin remix, Einmusik remix) (One Louder Berlin)
Melodic and airy neo trance. All three remixes are worth playing. Mike Rubin is behind Miro.

Dusty Kid – Klin (Boxer Recordings)
Dusty Kid is great melodist, and here we see this side of his production. Deep melancholic neo trance.

Dusty Kid – Pluk (Boxer Recordings)
Pluk from the same EP is absolutely another side of the Moon, experimental groove spinning on a uncommon tempo over 4/4 techno beat. Very possible “blow my mind” track of the night.
Train No 2 is good too, long tripy techno groover, robotic and primitive.
Check out America, great tripy epic (pity only digitally released) from Kid’ brand new album A Raver’s Diary. You may catch him on a tour now too.
