Kinny & Horne – Forgetting To Remember (Tru Thoughts)
Great track, full of humor, (relations y’know) nice to see someone capable of not taking it too seriously. Great catchy melody, hip-hop based jazz, touchy vocal.
Kinny & Horne – Why Me (Tru Thoughts)
Another favorite track from 2005 album, Forgetting To Remember, all tracks are good enough to be charted. Here are mixture of jazz, bossa nova, hip hop beats, and again humor, very positive!
The Captain – We Will Rock You (Resense)
All right, all right. Hands up, smiles , rock the party with this one. 200bpm jazz/bossa nova remake of famous football anthem by you know who. Incredible cover version. I still wonder do they got original acapella or somebody sings very similar to Freddy?
Nina Simone – Revolution (Parts 1 & 2) (Collectables
Great Nina. Here she did something today we can call “breakbeat-inpired-rock song with uplifting female vocal”. Grovy.
Tm Juke/The Jack Baker Trio – Boto & The Second Liners (Tru Thoughts)
Great album (LP+CD package), recorded live from first take, thats why it sounds so fresh, raw, and alive. That Gut Feeling (feat Andreya Triana) (pity its not on vinyl, best track on the album) – is great 200 bpm nu’jazzjazz/bossanova, lightly sounded but very groovy, Spread It On (feat Alice Russell) – deep funk, you know what Alice’ sexy voice is capable of, Party Favours (feat Gecko Turner) – nice, easy going afrobeat, Heads High(er) – funny instrumental cover version of Boney M old hit (or vice versa?), which will make you dance and laugh at same time, sounds like played by gypsy horn ansamble.
Senor Coconut & His Orchestra – Around The World (New State)
Cover versions is whats seems to be best weapon of Coconut. He started with covering Kraftwerk, but now its just cute selection of pop hits. Prince, Daft Punk, Eurythmics, Trio with Sweet Dreams, Kiss, Da Da Da, Dreams Are My Reality, Around The World, are my fave tracks, and whole album is very good. CD only 🙁
