UK DJ Legend
Voted “Wire magazines” number 1 dj of 1985 (yes 85) Paul Murphy has been noted as the original inventor of the dance floors left side. Influencing a generation of big name dj´s like Gilles Peterson, Carl Cox (who used to sneak into Murphy’s venues still in school uniform), Paul brought to light, a new style of djing, exploring the percussion driven and soulful rhythms of the 70´s U.S and south American jazz scene.
Paul has played in nearly every European country, so its easier to name the ones he has yet to do. Iceland, Albania, Andorra, Luxembourg and the Czech Republic, but he’s done all the rest time and time again, and one look at his up coming schedule for the remainder of 2006, declares him the Michael Palin of the djing world.
A prime favorite in the fresh clubbing scene market of Eastern Europe for his energetic sets, he is booked by promoters who don’t want another dull 3 hours of four to the floor up and down house beats. With his new album “the trip” riding high with the itunes generation and receiving chart listings and airplay world wide, this deep bass driven retrospective has a refreshing flavor, influenced by his knowledge, many years in the music industry and the thousands of miles traveling the globe.
Past productions have included the much celebrated “Jazz room” (a big record for Body & Soul NYC team, Danny Krivit, Francois K and Joe Clausell) whilst Remixing the likes of Kid Loco, Ballistic brothers (Ashley beedle – xpress2) and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra to name but a few.
Paul is also the head hancho of Afroart records who’s releases have been swaying dancefloors for nearly 10 years!! Afroart records has crossed genre’s and generations, releasing on everything from Groove Armada mix compilations to hit HBO show’s in the U.S, and bringing to light such talents as Spiritual south, who have scored massive club hits, while hot producer Danny Lewis’s latest studio offerings got snapped up by global house giant Defected records.
